About this title

Synopsis:

Portia Mansfield and Charlotte Perry, fresh out of Smith College, decided to make dance and theatre their life's work. Leaders in what was to become the field of modern dance, they helped shape the course of dance in America over five decades, and were instrumental in introducing dance movement into serious drama. Born out of their passion for dance and the equestrian arts was the Perry-Mansfield School of Dance, situated against the backdrop of the majestic Colorado Rockies. The ranch attracted to its faculty such dancers as Doris Humphry, Merce Cunningham, Anges DeMille, Helen Tamaris, and Charles Weidman. Julie Harris, Dustin Hoffman, Lee Remick, and Mako were amongst the young actors who sought and found artistic inspiration at the Perry- Mansfield School.

A legend in her own right, author Lucile Bogue (Miracle on A Mountain) recounts in vivid detail the dramas and history surrounding the founding and creative philosophies of Perry-Mansfield School. A wonderful book for students of dance, theatre, or equestrian arts. Heavily illustrated.
