About this Item

The first American edition, and first issue, of the book published in England as "Remote People" by Duckworth the same year. Spine cocked, marginal tear to one leaf of text repaired; the dustjacket rather chipped, split and repaired on the verso with archival tape, with a pencil annotation to the front panel: a good copy of the uncommon first issue. Most of the run, unsold at the time of the publisher's dissolution, was issued the next year by Farrar and Rinehart with a cancel title leaf and a new copyright date. The Cape and Smith dustjacket, featuring an order form for other Cape and Smith titles on the rear panel, was not used for the Farrar and Rinehart edition--a new jacket was prepared, based on the same artwork. The first issue jacket seems to be quite scarce. This is not a fine copy by any means, but it is stable and wants a loving home. Bookseller Inventory # 000150

Domestic shipping options are USPS Media Mail or Priority Mail. International shipping options are USPS First Class or Priority Mail. If your book is especially large, especially heavy, or especially valuable, a supplement to the default rate may be necessary. If you require a different or faster service, please send a note and we'll try our best to accommodate. Free Media Mail shipping is the standard for all domestic orders. Domestic Priority Mail and sometimes even international shipping are free if you pay by check, money order, or certain other low-cost methods--please inquire before ordering.
