About this Item

Blue spine and grey boards with metallic red spine titling. 385 pages. Book is fine, clean, tight, with no wear, and interior pages are clean and unmarked. Dust jacket is also fine, bright and crisp, protected in a clear mylar cover. ~~ Sometimes it's just nice to escape modern-day stress with a wholesome, lighthearted yarn. Van Reid's series of novels about the Moosepath League is just such a fictional tonic. In late 19th-century Maine, the Pickwickian foursome of the jovial Tobias Walton and his gentleman friends have a knack for engaging themselves in all sorts of predicaments and escapades, involving mystery, crime and romance. In this third installment of their adventures, it is Christmastime, and a country lawyer is despondent over the demise several years earlier of a close friend. When a missing portrait of her suddenly turns up, he sets out on a quest which involves an orphaned child, a ballplayer, some hooligans, and a special woman. His efforts involve Mr. Walton, his companion Sundry moss, and of course his Moosepathian cohorts, who in the meantime have been investigating a Viking rune. At once poignant and comical, full of engaging characters and inflected with genuine local color, this is a picturesque novel that makes for a perfect holiday read. ~~ This copy is inscribed by the author on the title page: "Best wishes!" Van Reid." A lovely book and a perfect gift. Bookseller Inventory # 001970
