As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. Book Description The MacMillan Company, New York, 1928. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition; First Printing. Maroon cloth with somewhat faded gilt titles and decoration. Spine is sunned but book is square and securely bound. Solid copy. ; B&W Photographs; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 359 pages; Olive Dame Campbell, famous for her English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians (co-authored with Cecil Sharp) toured Denmark and Scandinavia exploring the folk schools and their roles in preserving and expanding folk arts and crafts. Her husband, John C. Campbell, had promoted this idea but died before pursuing It. Olive Dame Campbell wrote this book after her trip and went on to found the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown NC, a school which still flourishes today. The book is signed by Campbell on the ffep to Mr. And Mrs. D. H. Burrell. This Burrell was the son of the famous New York inventor of the same name. On the front pastedown is the signature of Loomis Burrell who like his father held a number of patents. Campbell's signature is not common and the association with the Burrell family is quite evocative. The book also comes with an April, 1928 brochure from the John C. Campbell Folk School that is listed as "No. 5." We also have a copy of Campbell's English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians and her husband's earlier work, The Southern Highlander and his Homeland. All of these are importnt works for North Carolina and the Appalachians. ; Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 13075
