About this Item

First Edition (so stated), fewer than 1000 copies issued. 8vo: 304pp. Publisher's moss-green cloth, spine and upper cover lettered in orange (apparently a variant binding; Wilden cites tan cloth printed in black); price-clipped pictorial dust jacket. A Fine, tightly bound, unmarked copy; in a bright Near Fine jacket, lightly edge-worn, with shallow losses to spine head (but not touching lettering), stain on rear panel. Wilden 10b. A somewhat obscure Forester title, published in England as The Shadow of the Hawk, in which a swashbuckler named Henry Dawkins escapes from a brutal South American prison. Dawkins is a lieutenant of "The Hawk," a rebel leader who dies in battle after extracting a promise that Dawkins will seek out his daughter in far-off London. But this is the story of the Daughter of the Hawk, a girl of singular determination herself. The novel concludes with a rather creepy coda. Note: With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed. Bookseller Inventory # BB1031
