Faint spotting to the top edge of the text block, and slight tanning of the edges of the white section of the dust jacket which has a 0.5 inch tear at the bottom left-hand side of the rear panel. The account of the subject's adventures in Australia is enthralling and contains much new and historically important material. She married and accompanied her husband to Melbourne where he was appointed French Consul General in 1854, the high peak of the Gold Rush years. Her first novel, The Gold Thieves, based on her experiences there, immediately became a bestseller in France, and, dramatised by her friend, a smash hit in the theatre. Stock in excess of 220,000 books (slowly putting them onto computer ) ( about 34,000 so far) About 40% of our stock is hard-cover, and of these OVER 80% are first editions. He gets grumpier as he gets older, and spends most of his time at his shop at 668 Glen Huntly Road, Caulfield Sth (route 67 tram); 9523 6686 or 0419 330 268 (Between Kooyong and Hawthorn Roads )( open 11.00 am until 5.00pm ish daily, but usually Thursdays) She's the most tolerant person he knows. ( She also has an incredible memory for trivia, true crime and other useless stuff ( like where is his only tie) ) and looks after the Cats, and runs the Chapel Street store. All books that we have, that have a dust wrapper or parts thereof, are covered with a clear, glossy, non adhesive library quality wrapper, or a backed sleeve if there is severe damage. We do NOT attempt to repair any books with tape of any type or glues. ( unless we give it to our friendly bookbinder Peter Zerbe ( boundwords@labyrinth.net.au ) Postage from Australia can often cost more than the cost of the book!
