David Leventhal is a photographer who plays with toys, especially figurines, i.e., soldiers, dolls, cowboys & Indians, etc., putting them into frames of reference via photographing them, in order to question the very nature of representation. In making images that draw from our (largely television) culture of pictures, objects, myths, & symbols, Leventhal's postmodern aesthetic contests so much of what is seen.
