About this title

David Ligare is an American contemporary realist painter. Catalog of an exhibition held at Hackett-Freedman Gallery, San Francisco, Sept. 6-Oct. 27, 2007. An interview by David Rush. These paintings centered on the concept of aparchai, the ancient Greek religious practice of offering the gods the first part of whatever was acquired for use, whether by hunting, fishing, or harvest. These "first fruits" were presented to the deities on simple altars set up at various sacred points, such as temples, roadsides, lakes, or the sea. Illustrated. 32p.
