A very good plus copy, in a good dust jacket, of the first edition. The green cloth binding is clean and tight, with strong black lettering to the spine and the front board, and unbumped edges and corners. Fore-edges somewhat spotted. The contents are fresh and bright with no ownership inscriptions or any other markings of any kind. The dust jacket is unclipped (6/- net), but has lost a ragged piece extending to one inch to the top of the spine, and a quarter-inch strip from the bottom. There is also a triangular loss to the top of the front flap. Otherwise only minor edgewear. All is now protected in a removable mylar cover. Introduction by J. C. Smuts. From the blurb: "Vivid short stories and true sketches of life among the scattered farms of South Africa. Drought and locusts and loneliness provide a background of tragedy - but the author sees more comedy than tragedy in the everyday happenings of a settler's life". Bookseller Inventory #
