About this Item

Book Club Edition. Superb fine vintage cloth hardcover, likely book club edition, but very beautifully put together with blue full cloth covers, gold gilt lettering on spine, and color maps on end papers. Book has aged papers and light shelf wear on the edges, but appears to be new and unread and is very tight crisp and clean with no interior markings, stickers or signs of use. Jacket generally looks great but is lightly sunned and has some heavy wear on the top and bottom edges of spine and on corners, which I have repaired/reinforced with acid-free tape so it looks great. Super nice collectible book!. Bookseller Inventory # 046677

About this title

Synopsis:

The Dawn's Early Light

Review:

Still the best account available of the two key battles of the War of 1812... Popular historian Walter Lord, a Baltimore native, also wrote the bestsellers A Night to Remember and A Day of Infamy. In The Dawn's Early Light he brings the 1814 battles around Washington and Baltimore to life, making them seem terrifying and critical, as they must have seemed to Marylanders at the time.

(Baltimore City Paper)

Appealing to students of early American history and especially those with an interest in the mid-Atlantic states, this reprint of the 1972 original work on the War of 1812 provides a compelling narrative of the political and military strategy surrounding the battles in the Chesapeake bay in 1814.
