Synopsis: Praised by local concierges and tour guides for its ease of use as well as its breadth and depth of useful information, this book provides the essential information for creating and conducting successful tours in the Napa and Sonoma Wine Country. It includes chapters written specifically for the concierge and tour guide, followed by extensive maps, planned tours, and directories of wineries, hotels and restaurants. It explains how to create a themed tour, time appointments, navigate country roads, and safely conduct clients around the valleys, even while they become increasingly inebriated. The extensive collection of planned tours includes, but goes far beyond, the short list of wineries that most people visit. The mapped tours open the doors to many of the smaller, intimate wineries that offer clients a more personally satisfying experience. Written by two of the area's top tour guides, with long experience as trainers and seminar leaders, it is the professional version of their popular book, 'Your Day in Wine Country'.
About the Author: Ralph & Lahni DeAmicis are authors of more than a dozen books on design, health, business and travel. They are professional speakers, seminar leaders and tour guides. After spending many years in the splendor of Philadelphia they moved to the wilds of Sonoma and Napa. When they arrived they realized "There is wine here!" In their quest to visit all of the wineries in those two counties, they started writing a book about winery architecture.
As they traveled around to the wineries researching they kept noticing big black cars parked out front. They realized that the limousines were visiting the wineries that Ralph and Lahni wanted to visit, and the drivers were getting paid for that. What a concept! So Ralph took a position as a guide/driver. For the next two years he drove wine tours, visiting every winery he could, talking with everyone, reading everything and bringing back piles of information for Lahni to organize, along with his mapped tours, and his client's reactions. The architecture book gave way to a tour book called 'Your Day in Wine Country, Touring the Wineries of Napa and Sonoma'. Not surprisingly they found themselves doing training for tour companies and hotels and the result was their professional version, 'Their Day in Wine Country, A Concierge and Tour Guide Manual for Visiting the Wineries of Napa and Sonoma'.
In a quest to keep their books updated, Ralph and Lahni started their own winery tour company, Amicis Tours, based in downtown Sonoma and San Francisco. Their slogan "You've Got Friends in Wine Country" describes how they feel about their clients. They also write and speak on the motivational power of environmental design.
