About this title

From Library Journal:

A well-selected collection of letters to the editors of numerous Soviet publications from mid-1986 to mid-1990. Each chapter is preceded by a brief introduction that provides a context for the letters that follow. The letters are frank, touching on many of the burning issues of modern Soviet society, and represent the diverse "views from below" that compete for influence in the former USSR. The book is a good companion to Perils of Perestroika: Viewpoints from the Soviet Press, 1989-1991 ( LJ 11/1/91).While Perils of Perestroika has extensive bibliographies, which Dear Comrade Editor lacks, the latter makes good use of footnotes to identify persons and events. See also Small Fires: Letters from the Soviet People to "Ogonyok" Magazine ( LJ 11/1/90) and The Best of "Ogonyok" (LJ 5/1/91)--Ed.
