About this title:

Synopsis: Letters to the future about Chime 119, from some of his brother Chimes who loved him.

About the Author: The Georgetown Chimes are Georgetown University’s oldest and all-male a cappella singing group. Since 1946, the Georgetown Chimes have entertained Presidents from Truman to Obama, cocktail parties from Maine to California, and crowds of all ages from Puerto Rico to Germany. The Georgetown Chimes take their name from the original bells in the South Tower of Healy Hall. In 1946, founder Frank Jones, Chuck Laiosa and several others were singing for themselves as the tower bell chimes struck, and Jones named the group on the spot. “Alma Mater Tower Bells—The Georgetown Chimes” also is the name of a song the Chimes perform and have recorded, composed by Doc Donovan. Later, when those original tower bells fell into disrepair, the Chimes’ appearance with the Glee Club on the Ed Sullivan Show led to a donation of carillons to replace the original “Georgetown chimes.” The Chimes view the group as a tradition, entrusted from one Chime to the next, year over year, to now, almost 70 years from its start. With singing in harmony as a foundation for lasting friendship, the Chimes have become a family that connects men of several generations, with 18-year-old college freshmen enjoying bonds of brotherhood with octogenarians from the founding generation and with every member in-between. Wives, children, and grandchildren all attend Chimes events, as do their many Georgetown fans.
