Synopsis: Diana Atwood flees from her abusive husband, Henry Rutledge, after he murders her faithful servant and threatens to send her to Australia on a convict ship
About the Author: Author Laurel Schunk began writing, secretly, at her grandmother's antique secretary desk at the age of seven. Her first published book was an adult romantic suspense novel, The Voice He Loved, published by Thomas Nelson, and she has two easy readers for second graders, The Snow Lion and Rocks in My Socks, published by Waterford Institute (Addison Wesley/Scott Foresman). Her most recent works are Black and Secret Midnight, a suspense novel set in the South in the 50's and Death in Exile, a Regency mystery.
She holds a bachelor's degree in French from the University of Illinois as well as a second major, in psychology, from Wichita State University. She loves books, cats, dogs, and children.
She teaches writing and has sold numerous articles and poems. Her special interests include child abuse prevention, issues of race and poverty, music, and arts therapies. She lives in Wichita, Kansas, with her husband John and their youngest child. She has four children, two in-law children, and two granddaughters.
