First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1966.The BOOK is in VERY GOOD ++ or better condition. There is some pushing at the spine tips with some mild rubbing of the lower board edges. There is a mild fading of the upper spine colouring which does not affect the gilt lettering.Mild foxing to the front end papers and a couple of foxing marks to the rear blank end paper upper edges. There is also a faint brown mark about 2cm X 1cm to the first blank end paper (see photo). The rest of the book contents are clean apart from the occasional mild browning marks between pages 24-32 - these are very mild and I am not sure if it is just patchy age related browning of the quality of paper used at that time. The WRAPPER is near complete and is in VERY GOOD ++ or better condition. It is not price-clipped showing the correct price of 18s.There is rubbing, mild splitting and creasing at the spine folds. There is some chipping at the upper and lower spine with loss. The salmon pink colouring of the spine and front panel has faded in places. There is mild edge wear generally to the jacket with nicks, some closed tears and rubbing at the corners. The rear panel is very clean as are the flaps.Despite the detailed description, the wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. The rare Faber and Faber REVIEW SLIP is complete and mildly foxed. The review slip has the signs of old tape residue at the upper edge and on the verso at the upper edge. The book has been SIGNED directly to the title page by SEAMUS HEANEY.A ticket for the signing event accompanies this book for provenance.'Death of a Naturalist' is concerned with the author's memories from his childhood, ranging from experiences with nature to the death of his four-year-old brother.Although Heaney would not win the Nobel Prize in Literature until 1995,'Death of a Naturalist' won the young poet notable awards, including the Somerset Maugham Award, the Cholmondeley Award, the Eric Gregory Award, and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize.A very rare early title from the Nobel Laureate.Extremely scarce with such attribute.More images are available on request. ashtonrarebooks welcomes direct contact. Please consider looking at the other signed Heaney titles I have listed.
