Description:

Mrs. Henry de la Pasture. Deborah of Tod's. NY: E. P. Dutton & Company, 1909, 1st. American edition, 4th. printing, vi, 340 pp. *** Near Fine in VG dust jacket. After several successful novels, this English writer's first manuscript, bearing the title of this book, which was at first rejected, was finally accepted for publication by Smith, Elder & Co. of London. This copy is from the first American edition published in New York City. The setting for this story is the late 19th. century. A young, beautiful country girl in Devonshire weds a retired army general who is over 60. The characters reflect the mores and attitudes of genteel English society in the late Victorian era. A remarkably scarce book made here all the more so because of the original Dust Jacket. *** Bound in wine red cloth boards and spine. The front cover cloth has a blind stamped decorative pattern and gilt lettering, the spine with gilt lettering. The salmon color Dust Jacket (not price clipped) has the same pattern printed on the front panel as is on the front cover, and is in a clear protective cover. The book is in Near Fine condition. The jacket is in Good condition with light wear, moderate soil, some minor chipping on a few edges, and a few short closed tears repaired on verso with archival tape. *** 7.75 inches tall by 5.25 inches.
