8vo. (9" x 7 1/4", pp. [36]; in wraps. Collection of 18 penmanship exercises completed by noted British architect Maurice Adams when he was 13-years old and studying at Cliffe House Academy. Most of the penmanship samples are aphorisms and commemorative pieces meant to reinforce the values of patriotism and good character. Includes wonderful, hand-drawn illustrations related to slavery, temperance, and other period themes. 18 penmanship samples are as follows: 1. Title Leaf; 2.
