About this Item

Edited by Neill C. Wilson. Illustrated with wood engravings by Mallette Dean. Privately printed: San Francisco, 1955. Large octavo, cloth. 114 pages. Designed and printed by Taylor and Taylor of San Francisco. Very light fading to cover, but otherwise a fine copy. An important contribution to the history of the graphic arts in California. Francis Blake, James Moffitt, and James W. Towne came separately to California during the Gold Rush. They were printers who did important printing during these tumultuous times, and later they merged and expanded into paper merchandising, a commodity whose demand far outstripped the supply at the time. Eventually they would grow into one of the premier paper houses of the country. Bookseller Inventory # 2100
