First edition of these Catholic apologetics, largely in Latin with some portions in Greek and a very few quotations in Hebrew and German. As a supplement to this edition, Fabricius supplied the portions of Eusebius's Demonstratio Evangelica which had been missing from all previous printings of that work, from a now-lost manuscript belonging to Nicholas Mavrocordato, Prince of Wallachia. The volume opens with a copper-engraved frontispiece of the conversion of St. Paul, done by Christian Fritzsch, followed by a title-page printed in red and black, bearing the engraved Felginer printer's device. The front fly-leaf of this copy is filled with two lengthy early inked quotations regarding miracles and other proofs of Gospel truths, one section dated 1744; the annotations are continued on a back fly-leaf. 4to (21 cm, 8.25"). Frontis., , 755, [29 (index)] pp. Recent speckled paper?covered boards, spine with printed paper label. Dedication page with inked numeral in lower margin. Pages age-toned (a few more notably browned) and mildly cockled, with a few instances of early marginalia and inked marks of emphasis. Bookseller Inventory #
