Thick small 8vo. in original full calf. The "Third Edition, with Large Additions", so stated on the title page. Two volumes bound in one; Vol. 1 dated 1806 and Vol 2. dated 1805. xxiv + 179 pp. and 236 pp. with errata page for V1 and 2, index and final unpaginated errata page. A binding copy, spine very worn and with loss head and foot, rear board detached. Embrowning and foxing to the prelims and first 12 pages of the text. 1820 ownership signature at the head of each title page, another somewhat later ownership signature front free endpaper and bookplate front pastedown. The author notes in his Introduction to The Third Edition that ".the additions made to this impression. doubled the size of the work." . Considered a key work of the American Federalist period, a bitter, pro-Federalist satirical epic poem that attacked Jeffersonian democracy as well as Jefferson personally (he brings up his dalliance with his slave Sally Hemings) and taking issue with, among other things, Jefferson's "Notes On Virginia", the United States' failure to take up arms against France, the writings of Thomas Paine, etc. .
