About this title

Desert of Dreams is about the people who came to the Columbia Basin Poject in Central Washington State to fulfill the American Dream. They wanted land they could call their own and a chance to insure themselves and their children a future better than their past. It includes a short family history of just a few who left family and friends to venture into the wind swept lands of the desert. They came to tame the sand dunes and sage brush with help from the sparkling waters from the Columbia River. They turned the harsh, dry wastland into the most productive farms in the United States if not the world. The stories tell where these modern day pioneers came from and insights into their lives before and after their arrival on the desert of dreams.
