The tale opens with the news that the police had arrested the overseer's wife and children in Port Said, and that they can not get home to the Sudan. Themes of the Mahdi, European prisoners in Sudan, engineering the Suez Canal, Egypt, narrow-gauge railway travel, Syria, Bedouins, steamboats on the Nile, Arabic life, deserts and tropical forests, caravan travel, Kenia Mountain or Mount Kilima-Njaro, captivity, and then, talk of dispatching Christian missionaries. Indeed, a 1912 edition in nice condition. Very good. No dust jacket. Dulled spine titles; random interior age blemishes. Minor page block foxing. Slight edge wear. Solidly bound.
