About this Item

Early edition of Laurence Howel's English translation of "Spill de la vida religiosa," an allegorical novel originally written in Catalan and published anonymously in 1515. Harvard's record says: "Wrongly ascribed to Miguel Comalada." The three 1717 and the 1725 editions all have the same collation and pagination, the editions being self-identified on the title-page. Lacking the title-page, it is difficult to ascertain to which of the early printings this copy belongs. All of the early editions are rare. 12mo. 190, [2] pp. (lacking title-page). Either ESTC T107549, T107550, T201442, or N6501. Incomplete & disbound, with traces of original leather on spine, no covers. Title-page lacking. Preface and a few other pages rubber-stamped by a now-defunct institution; very faint spotting to first and last few leaves. Bookseller Inventory # 17975
