Mrs. Silinko Was Displaced By The Nazi Regime Twice And The Novel Is Dedicated To A Sister Who Was Killed By Them. She Writes Of A Woman Who Experienced Somewhat Similar Persecution During The French Revolution, But Who Was Well Connected, Her Sister Having Married Joseph Bonaparte, And She Herself Was Engaged To Napoleon Before He Married Josephine Instead. She Married Another French General And Became Queen Of Sweden. This Is A Reprint Edition From 1954. Nancy Mitford Comments On The Jacket That "It Is Dominated By The Figure Of Napoleon. Even If Desiree Is No Longer In Love With Him, We Feel That Miss Selinko Is." The Hollywood Version Starred Marlon Brando And Jean Simmons. You Can Catch Several Portraits Of Desiree On Wikipedia. This Copy Has Light Toning, No Writing Or Marks, Spine Slant, Intact Navy Topstain. Black Boards Have A Bump To Lower Front, But Gilt Lettering Is Still Very Bright.
