About this Item

80 p. 57 ill. Nazi diatribe against modern art, with expressionist and abstract works by German modernists juxtaposed with politically correct German ("Deutsche") works deemed acceptable, including comments on the juxtaposed works. Works condemned by the author were selected from the infamous "Entartete Kunst" exhibition of so-called degenerate art. The pairings are scandalous: an abstract Klee opposite a dreamlike landscape by von Richthofen; a Schmidt-Rottluff expressionist portrait of peasants working in the fields opposite a sentimental interpretation of the same subject by Josef Damberger; a scathing Grosz satire opposite an idealized military portrait by Eber; other works by Kirchner, Nolde, Schwitters, Otto Dix, etc. Text in German. Contents considerably foxed. Scarce. Bookseller Inventory # 001998
