In this revision the original plan of the manual, which gives to the tropical practitioner a concise and readily accessible presentation of the subject, has been retained. One of the changes reflects the acceptance of the spirochaetal etiology of yellow fever as ascertained by Noguchi (and this discussion is now placed with the section dealing with protozoal diseases). All the chapters have been carefully revised and brought up to the standard of knowledge in 1922. Six new chapters have been added on: Epidemic jaundice, rat bite fever, tularaemia, tables of helminthic and arthropodan diseases, trench fevers, and the diagnostics of tropical joint, muscle and bone lesions. Extensive additions ahve been made to the chapter on Diagnostic problems and procedures and elsewhere the latest views of acidosis have been added. Rear Adm. Edward Rhodes Stitt, who was the U.S. Navy Surgeon General from 1920 to 1928, He was also a graduate of the London School of Tropical Medicine and had been COmmanding Officer and Head of the Tropical Mediciant Department of the U.S. Naval Medical School and a Professor of Tropical Medicine as Georgetown University.
