With 24 illustrations. Cloth-backed marbled boards, an excellent copy from the collection of Georg Theodor Ziehen (1862-1950), German neurologist and psychiatrist, well-known for Ziechen-Oppenheim syndrome. FIRST EDITION of one of Sommer's earliest works in which he calls for more methodic research in psychiatric institutions. He was very influential in introducing new methods in psychopathological experiments, and later proposed a very ambitious agenda for psychological family research. Sommer (1864-1937) worked in the field of experimental psychology, with a special interest in aptitude tests. He felt that a combination of family research and psychological assessment would generate a new, exact social psychology. He rejected all proposals for compulsory eugenic measures, labeling them as true expressions of contemporary moral degeneration. He concluded that his science was still far from the diagnostic knowledge needed to accomplish his aim. Bookseller Inventory #
