About this title

Synopsis:

A biography of the Princess of Wales with emphasis on her duties and responsibilities as a modern princess.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 2-4-- Interspersed with a historical overview of royalty and a description of modern-day England, the life of Princess Diana becomes vivid in this readable book. Her childhood is briefly depicted as she attends private schools; copes with her parents' divorce; develops a fondness for dancing, sports, animals, and children; and then realizes at age 16 that she no longer wants to continue her education. Following her marriage to Prince Charles, her life drastically changes. Giff does an adequate job of introducing many aspects of Diana's life. Realistic but bland black-and-white illustrations appear throughout the text; they are nowhere near the high quality of other available photographs of the princess and her family. For younger readers, Diana, Princess of Wales (Childrens, 1985) by Carol Greene is a photographic biography. Steer older readers or those wanting a more detailed account to Mary Virginia Fox's Princess Diana (Enslow, 1986) or Henry Rasof's The Picture Life of Charles and Diana (Watts, 1988; o.p.). --April L.
