About this title

Synopsis:

Experience the world of college football from behind the scenes through the daily diary of Nebraska offensive lineman and long snapper David Kolowski. Readers follow along with one of the biggest and best college teams in the nation. This original work allows the reader to experience the intense workouts and practices, week-long bowl trips, the excitement, determination, pain and frustration athletes go through daily. Read never-before-seen stories of pranks, hazing rituals, drinking, fighting, and other stories.
What started out as a personal diary has quickly become one of the most compelling and informative introspectives into big-time college football.
David Kolowski joined the Husker football team in 1998, right after the Nebraska Cornhuskers had won three of the last four National Championships. With the hopes of giving Husker fans an inside look at life on a championship team, David kept this diary from day one.
By keeping his journaling a secret, David was able to give an unadulterated look at the inner workings of the team. With blunt honesty and a no-holds-barred attitude, David does for college football what Jim Bouton did for professional baseball in his classic book, Ball Four.
While grueling workouts and intense practices were the norm, David also shows the perks of college football life; the parties, the gifts, the money and the bowl trips.
The continued success of the program also seemed to be the norm. In 1999, the Huskers won the Big XII conference championship. In 2001, the team played for another National Championship title while quarterback Eric Crouch collected the program s third Heisman trophy.
However, the good fortune would not last. The team quickly fell apart, culminating in 2002 with the first non-winning season in 40 years.
In a move that has sparked continued controversy, the athletic department fired the entire coaching staff at the end of the 2003 season.
Diary of a Husker gives readers unique insight into the high-stakes world of college football. We can also see the numerous reasons that can take a team from the top of the college totem pole and cause it to come crashing down.
Lace up your cleats, strap on your helmet, and get ready to live the life of a Husker.
