Large octavo. 178, [2]pp. Original printed wrappers. Published by Carl Meinhof, one of the founders of African linguistics, this collection of eight lectures deals with various genres of African oral literature. In 1911, this work was the first academic study of African literature ever published in Germany. Wrappers sunned along edges, with lower front corner and head of spine partly chipped. Upper front corner slightly bumped, thus slightly affecting pages throughout. Pages age-toned. Text in German, Gothic script. Wrappers and interior in overall fair to good condition.
