Bret Harte's famous poem, written in July, 1870 printed by John Henry Nash in a limited edition (250 copies) as a gift to the Book Club of California, from the manuscript at Mills College, in 1923. It is made up of a 3-page facsimile of the manuscript, each leaf tipped in, and the beautifully printed poem on the fourth page, with red border and decorations. An elegant production with laid paper, with deckle edge, and watermarked either with a unicorn or with a monogram, "LGS," in script. Minimal wear at head and tail of spine.
