About this Item

"Dictionarium Etymologicum Latinum.Or, a Dictionary Declaring the Etomologies, the Original Derivation of All Words Used in Any Latine Authors, with the Reason of Their Derivations and Appellations.Lastly Rider's Dictionarie" by Francis Holyoke. Printed in Latin in its entirety. The stated seventh edition of a very important early dictionary, which had a long and rather complex printing history in the first half of the 17th century. Contemporaneous imprinted for Andrew Crooke, London, 1659. Very thick octavo [6" x 9"] with roughly 1410 unpaginated pages. Beautifully rebound in contemporary buckram with white and black paper label on the spine and new end pages. The book is in very good antiquarian condition. The last page of text is slightly worn and toned darkened. A light damp mark is just barely visible in the gutter margin. In the upper gutter area of the entire "O" signature there is a tear in the margin. There is a tear with a very small loss on "Ll5", and on "Yy8". Two leaves have stains: a rather large one of 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" on "eeee 1" and a small one on "mmmm 7". The textblock is surprisingly bright for its age, with lightly toned margins.
