About this Item

This book is not dated. There are no indications of edition. Under the author's name on the title page is: "(Of Trinity Hall, Cambridge: Author of "Guide to Science," "Guide to Every-Day Knowledge," &c. &c.". The book contains viii, 979 pages. The binding is period, 3/4 blue leather with marbled boards. The covers are well attached without any cracking. The spine has very good, gilt lettered labels for the title and for the author. The spine leather is somewhat dried with small cracks. Both the spine and the covers have good, unworn and unbumped edges. Marbled inner covers with marbled endpapers and an owner's bookplate. The viii, 979 pages are very clean, are still crisp and are tightly bound. There are no advertisements at the back (if there were any to begin with). I believe that the Second Edition was the New York imprint of 1870 and the Third London Edition of 1872 had xii, 983 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 12195
