Laid in is a 1 page typed letter from US War Department official Patrick Hurley to Alice Roosevelt Longworth, daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt and wife of then Speaker of the House Nicholas Longworth. Hurley tells Longworth about information in the book that is relevant to her family history - on the Roosevelt side.
