About this title

A rather ambitious title you might think, but this is one of the best books on King Arthur written for a general readership. This revised edition sees Ashe stand by his claim that the real Arthur was to be found amidst literary creation based on historical fact. He provides a useful synopsis of Geoffrey of Monmouth's 12th-century History of the Kings of Britain as it relates to the Arthur myth, and delves deeply into the world of post-Roman Britain searching for clues and links to the king mentioned therein. Stepping from literary imagination to real history, and presenting fresh interpretations of material, this is a great book and one which takes the Arthur legend seriously.

About the Author:

Geoffrey Ashe is widely regarded as one of the leading Arthurian specialists, and is author of A Guide to Arthurian Britain, Avalonian Quest, The Quest for Arthur's Britain and Camelot and the Vision of Albion. In 2000, Sutton republished his 'The Hell Fire Clubs: A History of Anti-Morality. A former secretary of the Camelot Research Committee, he now lives in Glastonbury.
