About this Item

Limited Edition in slipcase with hologram, SIGNED by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas (top animators during Disney's classic years) on paste-down certificate/sleeve which holds a 12-inch strip of ORIGINAL FILM from Disney's 1937 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. This is #1658 of this special edition. Handsome slipcase in navy cloth with gilt titles has a colorful hologram of the evil Queen (4.5" x 5.5") centered on the front cover. The book itself is also navy cloth and gilt, with blind-stamped signatures of Johnston and Thomas impressed across the front cover. Content: "Two supervising animators for the Disney studios offer an inside look at the great Disney cartoon villains, from the evil Queen Maleficent to Jafar, featuring full-color portraits, scenes from the films, and discussions on how these characters were created." - publisher. CONDITION: Book itself is FINE with only one minor abrasion at the spine head; otherwise pristine. The slipcase has scattered blemishes and scuffs, more so on the back than the front, and some wear on the bottom of the case; the hologram surface is close to excellent but with some micro-scratching of its mirror-like surface. All in all a nice copy of this scarce limited edition. SEE PHOTO ENLARGED. Bookseller Inventory # 04222

About this title

Synopsis:

Two supervising animators for the Disney studios offer an inside look at the great Disney cartoon villains, from the evil Queen Maleficent to Jafar, featuring full-color portraits, scenes from the films, and discussions on how these characters were created.

From Booklist:

Since launching its Hyperion book division two years ago, the Disney Company has been practicing synergism by mining its archives for material suitable for compiling into lavish gift books. The latest such project is an oversize volume spotlighting memorable villains from more than six decades of the studio's animated films. The rogues' roll call begins well before the wicked queen in Snow White (1937), reaching all the way back to Mickey Mouse's early nemesis Peg Leg Pete, who actually antedated Mickey, and extending through The Three Little Pigs' Big Bad Wolf down to The Little Mermaid's Ursula and Aladdin's Jafar. All are depicted in hundreds of illustrations that include plenty of full-color frame enlargements and animators' sketches. Veteran animators Johnston and Thomas, there at the creation of most of the studio's masterworks, describe the characters' development and provide fascinating insights into the making of the films and the changes in Disney's approach over the years. The resulting volume is sure to appeal to audiences' fascination with villainy--especially when it's presented as frighteningly as Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent or as humorously as 101 Dalmatians' Cruella de Vil.
