Book Description Hodder & Stoughton, UK, 2013. Hardcover, Slipcased. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Limited slipcased first edition - with facsimile author's signature and a limited edition print. Sequel to "The Shining". Synopsis : Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance and the very special twelve-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. They look harmless¿mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. But as Dan Torrance knows, and tween Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the "steam" that children with the shining produce when they are slowly tortured to death. Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father's legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant "shining" power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes "Doctor Sleep." Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan's own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra's soul and survival. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted readers of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon. Book Description Hodder & Stoughton, 2013. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. London, England: Hodder & Stoughton (2013). Doctor Sleep by Stephen King. Octavo, hard cover, pp. 486, first edition. Limited Edition of 200 Numbered Copies Signed by Stephen King. This is #195. Illustrated Slipcase Condition: Fine. Book Condition: Fine. Illustrated boards, colored end papers. Complete with limited print of the book jacket image. In an unusual move, Hodder & Stoughton's contract with the US prohibited customers residing in North America from ordering this edition when it was announced. As such, collectors trying to secure copies from friends in Europe, Australia, Asia and the UK, meant that high double shipping costs, and foreign transaction fees made this a very expensive edition to acquire. With a very low print run of only 200 copies, a sequel to one of Stephen King's most popular novels, The Shining, sales of Doctor Sleep UK Limited has remained quite healthy on the secondary market. It is worth noting, while this edition was originally mailed in publishers shrink wrap, some buyers (3 confirmed) that waited years to open theirs were disappointed to discover that it was not signed due to a publisher's error. As too much time had passed, there was no recourse from Hodder & Stoughton, especially true if the book had changed hands multiple times. That explains the reasoning of opening the book and checking.
