Mudd, who was convicted and imprisoned for treating John Wilkes Booth's broken leg after Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater, was likewise a physician, and spent decades attempting to get his grandfather's conviction pardoned. Document Signed, 1p + printed presentation envelope, 5 3/4" X 13½", n.p., n.y. /Near fine. "Souvenir Facsimile of the Gettysburg Address in the handwriting of Abraham Lincoln" (envelope headline) produced by the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company of Fort Wayne, Indiana, undated but likely 1970s vintage. Facsimile on a toned paper, printed in brown ink, of one of the five handwritten texts of this address that survive. Near fine. Original faint folds.
