Book Description [Dutton?], New York, 1954. Original Paper Back Version. Book Condition: Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 256p. In its day it was considered the "modern" way to play baseball including shifts, new pitching methods (primitive today to even the average serious fan) in an age when the fastball, curve and change-of-pace [they did yet say "change up") and no mention of the slider, screwball or knucleball. The section on managers has changed less but still the book reflects an era when the essence of baseball was there but equipment, techniques, and training have allowed players to maximize their strengths. The author, of course, is famous for his interview with Ted Koppel on Nightline in 1987 when he explained there were no blacks in the higher levels of management because they didn't have "the necessities" (or what was understood as a racist view regarding mental inferiority).
