About this title

Dogs I've Met relates Jessie Bailey Crook's many casual meetings with a wide variety of dogs and what their owners said about them. For several years, while enjoying her own three, she met other dogs during her international and domestic travels. In Japan, Greece, Spain, Peru, Kenya, and Italy, and from Ohio to Wyoming and Florida, Jessie regularly encountered dogs. From conversations with their owners she learned about the dogs' origins, idiosyncrasies, names and sometimes much more. "Dogs I've Met" is a compilation from her journals of those many humorous, interesting and insightful encounters. The reader will meet Cameron, Simba and Trixster, the author's three dogs and learn about the painful loss of Simba (pictured on the cover) from cancer. Writing this book was therapy for that loss. Reading it will give dog lovers everywhere an opportunity to enjoy, as did the author, encounters from Angel to Zane with many memorable dogs such as Biff, Cuervo, Ditka and Ellie. This book is a delightful "treat" for even those who don't love dogs.

About the Author:

Jessie Bailey Crook and her husband, Tom, live on a small farm near Columbus, Ohio. It was at their Sunnyfield Farm that they enjoyed the company of Jessie's "schoolyard dogs," Cameron and Simba, and their inherited dog, Trixster. Jessie is a life-long dog lover, having grown up on another Ohio farm with many hunting dogs around the place. During her career as a classroom teacher and then as the curriculum coordinator at an international studies and foreign languages middle school, Jessie was involved in regular international travels with her students and for her Global Education degree. Tom was also a teacher, so they spent many summers together in domestic travel, camping and touring with their motorcycle. Everywhere she went Jessie enjoyed greeting dogs and easily engaging their owners in dog-talk. "Dogs I've Met" is the result of those encounters. Jessie is dogless now, which is, as she says, "No way for a dog lover to be!" But since retiring, she and Tom spend most of the year at their golf course condo in Florida and enjoy regular travel elsewhere. Owning a dog isn't possible right now but enjoying other people's dogs provides some of the regular "dog fix" that she needs.
