About this Item

100 p. Includes illustrations. This was published as a lower-cost version of the original (expensive) work. Dore's pencil drawings are extremely fine; some called him "the most original and variously gifted desginer [sic] the world has ever known." The Biblical scenes illustrated are subjects "relating to the most prominent events and personages of Scripture, " and were chosen "with special reference to the known taste of the American people." Small quarto (11 1/2" x 9 1/2"), brown cloth hardcover with gold titles and decorations; all edges gilt; pages are glossy cream paper; interior fine; cover is attached by just a thread; corners are bumped and with some cloth lost at head and foot of spine; name and address neatly and almost invisibly inscribed on front free endpaper. Because the book is oversized and very heavy, extra postage will be required. Bookseller Inventory # 070714GD
