About this title

Synopsis:

Meet Seth Evergood, internationally celebrated journalist. A popular author and lecturer from an elite New England family, Seth knows everybody who's anybody in leftist politics - from Regis Debray to Daniel Cohn-Bendit to the various Black Panthers...In fact, Seth is practically a 1960s double for his illustrious father, who was a comrade of Malraux, Neruda, and Sartre before achieving hero status in the Spanish Civil War. Why, then, with so much prestige and adulation, does Seth find it ever more difficult to get through each passing day without constant infusions of Librium, Seconal, and amphetamines?
Despite his gratifying public career, played out before an approving audience of activists, Seth begins to feel "free" only after agreeing to run a clandestine illegal errand on behalf of MIRA (Movimiento de la Izquierda Revolucionario Armado, or Movement of the Armed Revolutionary Left). Once he crosses through the looking-glass, however, Seth begins to wonder: Is he on a political pilgrimage, or a fool's errand? Is the Vermont farm where he stops an idyllic rural commune, or a collective full of promiscuous, acid-dropping juveniles? Are his cohorts "sainted fools," or dangerous lunatics? Is he being double-crossed by one of them? Seth hopes the answers will come to him in a blinding flash of revelation. He gets one. Or, at least, its virtual double.

From the Publisher:

Is Jose Yglesias's novel an ambivalent meditation on political idealism? Or a caustic satire of hedonism, vanity, and ideological folly? You'll be compelled to think twice, reading DOUBLE DOUBLE.
