A small 8 page publication "A Leap in the Dark" neatly glued inside rear cover. 12mo, dark green blind stamped cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Tissue protected frontispiece portrait of Dr. Grant. Very nice fold-out map. 13 total illustrations; 9 full page wood engravings, three text illustrations, and the fold-out map. Dr. Asahel Grant (American 1807-1844), physician, was a Presbyterian missionary to the Nestorians, survivors of an ancient Christian sect who inhabited the district of Oroomiah in Western Persia and the Kurdistan mountains.
