The author (1813 - 1858) was a ship's surgeon who spent several years on whaling ships in and around the South Pacific waters of New Zealand from 1837 - 38, and 1845 - 46. His journals kept during the time were edited by Alexander Dumas and published in a volume called, Les Baleiniers, 1859, which was first translated into English by Frank W. Reed in 1937, and published as The Whalers, in London by Hutchinson, and America by Hillman-Curl. Very scarce. Bookseller Inventory # 002727
