Skeaping's friend, Elinos Lincoln, had told him that Bim had died. Bim's letter was prompted by publication of this book which Skeaping then discusses. 'There is much of course that does not appear as the story had to be brief.' Skeaping is pleased to be reminded of his works that his friend posesses and expresses the will to meet again and the problems in doing so posed by living abroad. On headed paper of 'Moulin de la Taillade, 34169 Castries' [below which, in pencil, is one word, 'Herault'] where Skeaping - 'I am seventy-six now' - had been living for seventeen years. (iii) Single-side, foolscap, autograph letter (dated March 17th 1980) to 'Dear Bim' from 'Chris [Skeaping]' thanking him for his sympathetic letter following John Skeaping's death and explaining, in considerable detail, the circumstances leading to their loss. In accordance with his wishes, Skeaping was cremated on the 11th May and his ashes scattered at sea on the 14th. A Memorial Service was to be held at St. James, Picadilly. Chris corrects details in the Daily Telegraph Obituary (iv) Press cutting, pasted to front paste-down, announcing the death of John Skeaping, (v) a cutting, Skeaping's Obituary [from the Telegraph?] is pasted to the rear paste-down. (vi) laid-n is a gift tag inscribed to 'La Lagia' from 'Betty.' John Rattenbury Skeaping [1901-1980] was a sculptor in wood, stone and bronze and is remembered for his portayal of animals in particluar that of the race horse, Mill Reef. His first marriage, to Barbara Hepworth, was dissolved in 1933. His second marriage, to Morwenna Ward was dissolved in 1969 following which he married Margery Scott. From what this cataloguer has learned, 'Bim' was the son of William Bravington; he himself was a competant painter whose wife was a pupil of Skeaping. He was Godfather to Christopher, one of three sons of Skeaping's second marriage. Bookseller Inventory #
