About the Author: Angie Holtzhouser shares her Missouri home with her husband Larry Joe, her children Rick and Robin, and her grandchildren Ellie and Nolan. Ah! Let us not forget Zerro her twenty-pound cat! Holtzhouser is recognized as an author, as a syndicated newspaper columnist and as a host of live TV cooking segments and cooking schools.
Angie was born in rural Tennessee into a lively Southern-Irish family and has spent her life near the Mississippi River. The river gives you "wonder-lust", consequently, Larry Joe and Angie have logged more than 100,000 inspirational miles across the USA, Ireland and Canada. Along the way they have encountered breath taking natural beauty and always an appreciation of the different peoples and their diverse cultures. The following is one of Angie's favorite moments.
In 2008 my husband and I were touring Ireland to visit the birthplace of my great-great grandfather, Ruben Mays. Ruben was born in County Cork, but he left Ireland from Cobe.
One of the most amazing moments of my life was when I stood on the dock at Cobe, where the Irish boarded Ghost Ships during the Potato Famine, with no passenger lists. Also on this very dock, the last passengers boarded the Titanic! Their passenger list did them no good.
People quickly grew quiet on the dock, as all those long ago souls rushed by us. Some to die in days, others whose great-great granddaughter, a hundred and fifty years later, would stand on the same Cobe dock!
As a labor of love Angie penned "Drop Dumplin's and Pan-Fried Memories ... Along the Mississippi" and dedicated it to her cherished family --- to all those before her and to all those yet to come!
