Book Description Edmonston & Douglas, London, 1871. Cloth. Condition: Good. First Edition. [*ATTIC BOOKS CHELTENHAM*] 1871 1st Edition. 12mo. Red cloth embossed patterned board with gold lettering. Pp. xvii, 312. Druidism Exhumed | In Two Parts - Part One: Proving that the Stone Circles of Britain were Druidical Temples; Being an analysis and refutation of the treatises on "Stone Circles" in the late Spalding Club's "Sculptured Stones of Scotland." - Part Two: Containing other Important Collateral Archaeological Matter. Hinges cracked between pp. 112-113. Binding still tight and book holding together well. Some mild browning towards page extremities throughout. Vescia piscis label attached to inside FFEP with the letters "Thos. Rowlands" in Old English Script inside it. Corners are rounded with a small portion of the boards exposed with a few minor dings along the top and bottom edge of the front board. Red cloth has become a little blackened (presumably with age) on front and back boards. The spine has become particulary blackened and is now a very dark red colour. The gold lettering and gold device on the spine is still surprisingly bright given the age of the volume. The top third of the cloth on the left edge of the spine is torn (total length of tear ~7.5 centimeters or ~3 inches). Edges of tear are very slightly frayed, otherwise it is a clean tear. Crown (cloth) on spine has been cleanly cut away leaving the crown of spine some 6 milimeters lower than front and rear boards, exposing the top edge of pages on bound side. Foot of spine is also very slightly frayed. Faint circular ring mark to rear board. A couple of other minor marks to front and rear of boards including a small rubbing mark to upper left side of panel on front board. This book certainly has character. Overall condition is fair to good. *** Our policy is to despatch book within 24 hours of receiving order: 1st Class, 6 days a week. All orders are securely and protectively packaged. ***.
