The author's Civil War service with the 47th Illinois Infantry Regiment, probably altered by memory but intended to give the reader an idea of the experience of war. Not a true unit history, although the 47th Illinois saw action at Corinth, Vicksburg and the Red River Campaign. Two of the unit commanders were killed in action. Very good copy of the first edition.
