Book Description Vinton & Co, London, 1897. Edition De Luxe, no. 60 of 100 copies, numbered and signed by the author on the title page of each volume. With 18 wood engraved and 10 hand-colored etched plates, plus numerous illustrations in text; Vol. II contains 100 flies in 12 recessed card mounts. 2 vols. 4to. One of 100 Signed Copies, With an Added Fly Tied by Halford. Frederic M. Halford (1844-1914), author and angler of the late Victorian and early Edwardian eras whose writings and systematic approach to the dry fly profoundly influenced fly-fishing around the world. His books, beginning with Floating Flies (1886) and Dry-Fly Fishing in Theory and Practice (1889), and culminating with Dry-Fly Entomology (1897), made a legendary figure of the somewhat reserved Halford and shaped the sport for decades. As Tony Hayter's recent biography demonstrates, Halford's life and writings remain of perennial interest. Westwood & Satchell Supplement, p. 246; Gee p. 92; cf. Hayter, F. M. Halford and the Dry-Fly Revolution (2002) Full green crushed morocco gilt, t.e.g., others uncut. Covers time-darkened and, as usual, spines uniformly faded to brown; second volume rebacked, else a fine set with the flies in perfect condition. With an inserted fly at no. 54, with the manuscript notation "one of the flies tied by Halford in 1903" With 18 wood engraved and 10 hand-colored etched plates, plus numerous illustrations in text; Vol. II contains 100 flies in 12 recessed card mounts. 2 vols. 4to Edition De Luxe, no. 60 of 100 copies, numbered and signed by the author on the title page of each volume.
