About this Item

Doubliners, which is one of the crucial books of modern literature, is the work of a very young man. A version of The Sisters one of the stories which make up this book was already written in 1904 when joyce was but twenty-two years old, and within three years all the fourteen stories had been written. Joyce was always a Dubliner at heart. Joyce wrote " For myself, I always write about Dublin, because if I can get to the heart of Dublin I can get to the heart of all the cities of the world. In the particular is contained the universal" Book is in mint condition as is the ultra-Suede lined slipcase which is bound in Irish linen. The book was hand-sewn and bound at the Jovonis Bookbindery at their new(1985-6) shop in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The materials used for the cover are dark green Nigerian Oasis goat for the spine with irish handkerchief linen turned over the boards. This edition of Dubliners is #539 of 1000 and is an homage in the form of a fine book to one of the great writers of all time. The book is signed on the colophon page by Thomas Flanagan who wrote the introduction and Robert Ballagh whose six wonderful photogravure plates grace this magnificent edition. A copy of The Limited Edition Club letter is tipped in. This book is not only beautiful and rare, it is a must for collectors of james Joyce and fine book making in general.
